Part 2 of Beverly Morrow's Texture of life quilts

Sorry I had to open another posting to show you the quilts of Beverly Morrow, I have too many pictures to show everything on one blog.  I didn't realize there is a limit to how much you can post to one blog.  So here is the last of the quilts.   Enjoy the life Beverly Morrow.

And here is the last quilt named  " 3D Poppies"

3 D Poppie was the only quilt out of the Beverly Morrow collection that was not my own design,
This design was taken from a wonderful quilt artist named Kumiko Sudo from her book Fabled Flowers innovative quilt patterns inspired by Japanese Sahiko and Orgami Traditions.

What I learned in this book has inspired me to create my own designs.

It was truly my pleasure in bringing you the Texture of Life quilts made in honor of Beverly Morrow mother to my friend Sally Bartlett.

And since this is the holiday season I would like to share with you a poem I wrote about Laughter.

                          Laughter

Laughter stretches out
  through the house,
Bouncing around like a gitty child,

Seeping out the windows to the
   streets of noise,

Wondering !!!

Until it finds an ear to listen
not knowing of it's origin,
he smiles to himself,

As the infection of laughter
moves the corners of his mouth,

Left to the imagination of his own mind,
that leaves the streets to another time,

When Laughter had a mind of it's own.

May this holiday season find your homes filled with laughter bouncing off the walls.

Thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you enjoyed all I had to share.

IN MEMORY OF BEVERLY MORROW

Hello all who view my blog.  It is my pleasure to present to you the art that I created from Beverly Morrow's clothing.   Beverly is the mother of Sally Bartlett, when Sally gave me her clothing she said to make what ever came to mind.  She trusted me to capture the essence of her mom.  While I was interviewing Sally about her mom.  She told me that her mom always wore flowers in her hair and also wore a pin on her blouse.  Beverly also collected tea pots.   I found her clothing to be festive and colorful.  It was a pleasure creating these Texture of Life Quilts in her honor.

Every quilt has a pin from Beverly's collection of many pins.

The pictures will be presented with what the clothing looked like prior to the seams being undone.

Follow Jordan Coles Quilt from beginning to end.

When I think of the quilts I make, I believe I am giving a piece of time back to the who receive them.
These quilts help heal the heart.  May every stitch in these quilts mend the heart that knew the soul.

Once upon a time a young man named Jordan Cole lived amongst us in full blossom.  His life is represented in these two quilts I designed in honor of him.

Everytime I start a new Texture of Life quilt, my studio transforms into the celebration of their life.
When I met with Jordan Coles mom Sandy.  She gave me a photo album that Jordan made along with specific instructions of what she wanted on Jordans quilts.  The Photo album is on the bottom of this picture,  it has the heart on the cover.  It may be hard to see but there is a photo taken out of the album.  It is a picture of their dog Bruno.   Jordan gave Bruno to his parents as a gift.  Sandy asked me to make a block on the quilt with Bruno on it.  I sketched Bruno out first on tracing paper, and then began the process of making him.  In the picture Bruno has a blue collar on with a silver ring on it.  You will see better pictures of Bruno throughout the following pictures.

Sorry but I didn't get a close up of the block of Bruno completed by itself.  But it is in the picture below.  The second block down on the left.

Also in this picture you can see the Cole Family.    Sandy wanted a block that represented her family.
The yellow t shirt in the middle of the blocks was the block that picked the color scheme of this quilt.  Black and Yellow.  I wanted this quilt to cheery and sunny.  The yellow shirt was Jordan's favorite shirt.

When I take the t shirts apart I pin them to my design wall.  Just to see what I have and what works together so that I can start formalizing the quilt in my mind.

This is a picture of a truck that Jordan owned, Sandy told me this truck was very important and also needed to be included in the quilt.

Here is the block that I made to represent this truck.  I had a hard time making the hub caps until I decided to think out of the box.  The hubs are a pair of earrings I had.  I'm always surprised when I buy things sometimes.  I knew I had to have these earrings but when I purchased them I had no idea they meant to be on this quilt.  I wore them maybe once in the past 2 years.

Also needed on this quilt is a red Peterbilt truck.  The truck block is on the bottom of the design wall.

This is the entire quilt laid out on a quilters frame.  I apologize but I lost the pictures of the completed quilt.  So this is the only picture I have.  I GUESS PROBLY is spelt wrong on purpose.  Because that was how Jordan always said it.

The back of this quilt is made up of the t shirts that I could not fit on the front of this quilt and made with all Jordan's jeans.  This quilt was so large I had to sandwich it together on my deck.  It was a gorgeous August day.  This process took me 4 to 5 hours to complete.  When I completed the process
and took down my frame it began to rain.  Just a little shower but if I was in the middle of the process it would have soaked the quilt.  Just a little tidbit for you to ponder.

The following quilt was also made to represent what Jordan loved to do.
This quilt is named "Great Days".

The deer below is an actual picture that Jordan drew at a young age.  Sandy had it transferred onto cloth it is included in both quilts.

Jordan loved hunting and fishing.

This is the completed wall hanging.  Every quilt I make has a pocket on the back of it that tells the story.  This quilts story is Jordan loved to hunt, fish and camp.  Whenever you look at this quilt you  are to remember one of these great days spent with Jordan.

Made in honor of Jordan Cole,  May your Texture of Life quilts be passed through the generations to come.  Always to be remembered.

Hello all who view this blog.  I completed my niece Kimberly's quilt It is named "DANCING AROUND MY LIFE" .   All of the blocks and the woman are made from the clothes that are displayed under "Once Upon a time on a Clothesline".

I started this quilt in the winter of 2013.  My neice Kimberly is an accomplished pottery designer.
She has her own studio in Cape Cod, Mass.  called "The Barn".  While she was spinning her wheel this winter I was creating these Mandala's.  In a sense we where spinning in the same direction.
The background on this quilt also holds dear meaning to my family.  My sister Barbara Vazan passed away 1 1/2 years ago.   She was a master quilter.  This background fabric was from Barbara's stash.  It also rest on the back of one of Barbara's masterpiece quilts named "Red Star" a New York Beauty pattern quilt.
"
So everyone here is the quilt  "DANCING AROUND MY LIFE"

The block to the right side of the quilt hanging by itself.  Was a block I made but could not fit it in the quilt.  So I decided to make a small wall hanging out of it.  I named this block "Just Playing"
because it is exactly what I was doing.   All the blocks are my own design accept for the intricate
pink and yellow block.  This is the only block made from a pattern from the book Magnificent Spirals Mandala quilts written by RaNae Merrill.  This block gave me courage to try new designs of my own.
The Brown and white block on the bottom left was a test of my abilities.   I love how the swirls came out.

The four people dancing in the middle of this block was on a shirt that belong to Kim's son Caton.

The eye lashes on the woman was on a shirt that belonged to Caton.  Sorry the following photo is on its side.  The crown on her head was a sequenced skirt that belonged to Kim's daughter Pheobe.

This is a close up of the quilt block "Just Playing".   I will be giving this to Pheobe because the pink velour was a dress of hers.

The following is a wallhanging that I made from clothing that I could not fit into my design.  I decided to give this one to Caton.  The block in the middle was Caton's sweatshirt.  Abenaqui is golf course where  Caton's grandfather is the Professional Golf Pro.   The University of New Hampshire shirt belonged to Kim.

So I hope you enjoyed my presentation of "Dancing Around My Life".  I love what I create in honor of you.
